Motorola --- 80 Years of Reinvention
This week marks a major milestone -- Motorola's 80th anniversary. Throughout Motorola's eight decades, we can trace a constant thread -- invention and reinvention.
Time and time again, Motorola has reinvented the possibilities of technology and pushed the limits of mobility...from the first commercially successful car radio in 1930, to the first police cruiser radio receiver in 1936...from the first pager that could send a radio message to a specific person in 1956, to the transmission of Neil Armstrong's first words spoken from the surface of the moon in 1969. And 25 years ago, in 1983, it was the invention of the world's first cellular network and commercial cellular portable phone.
We honor the achievements of those Motorolans who came before us by building on their tradition.
In Home & Networks Mobility, we accelerate the delivery of personal media experiences with ever more accessible Internet and video at home and on the go.
In Government & Public Safety, we provide technology that is second nature, so the world's first responders can focus on their mission -- saving lives.
In Enterprise Mobility, we bring mobility to the shop floor, to the loading dock, on the road, in the corner office and to a patient's bedside.
In Mobile Devices, we liberate people through new levels of connectivity -- removing time and place barriers to provide constant access to compelling experiences.
Now, Motorola is planning to reinvent itself yet again -- through the creation of two, separate companies positioned for success. Both of these businesses will carry a heritage of customer responsiveness, technological prowess and agile reinvention into the future.
We are 80 years young, and all of us should be excited about the future. It is a future that continues to both drive and be driven by mobility. Our thanks to each of you for the role you have played in Motorola's history and the role you will play in driving our future. Let's kick off the next 80 years with optimism, enthusiasm and urgency...and continue advancing the way the world connects.
Happy anniversary.
